Author: Beck, A.T., Steer, R.A., Brown, G.K.Summary: This instrument measures the severity of depression. This version of the inventory was developed for the assessment of symptoms corresponding to criteria for diagnosing depressive disorders listed in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fourth Edition (DSM-IV, 1994). The new revised version dropped four items (weight loss, body image change, somatic preoccupation and work difficulty) and added four new items (agitation, worthlessness, concentration difficulty, and loss of energy) in order to index symptoms typical of severe depression warranting hospitalization. Two items were changed to allow for increases in appetite and sleep (Beck et al., 1996).Format: Self-report, 4-point scale questionnaire.: Call # WM 171 B393b 1996 ATOOLS (Reserve Desk)Population: 13 through 80 yearsScoring Manual scoring or Q-global™ Scoring & ReportingCompletion time 5 minutes; self-administered, or verbally by a trained administratorEquipment.
